GoDaddy locks domain registered to Great Dane

GoDaddy recently announced the termination of email communications as a form of issue resolution; the remaining methods of phone and online chat are proven to be problematic.

Recently, a domain name used by a canine society for stray dogs with mobility issues was locked down by GoDaddy; its owner naturally turned to support.

“My web site was down, and I had no idea what was going on,” said Marcus Wolf from Peoria.

“After a couple of emails I was told to call the GoDaddy hotline, and they laughed when they realized the domain were registered in my dog’s name, but it’s not a laughing matter to me!” exclaimed Wolf.

Apparently, GoDaddy’s automated system for fraud and bogus information kicked in, when the Great Dane’s name “Wolfy Bones” was used in the WHOIS info for the domain.

GoDaddy restored the domain earlier today, while stating the obvious:

“At GoDaddy we take security very seriously, and the use of fake, bogus or otherwise incorrect information for your domain contacts is a serious offense. We let that one slide but folks should not go about using their pets’ names for the WHOIS, it’s unprofessional and a little creepy, if you ask me.”

Marcus Wolf plans to form an LLC and call it “Wolfy Bones” as a method of circumventing the “obvious anti-canine laws” as he calls them.
