Google generics: Anguilla no longer linked to .ai domains

Google has added dot .ai, the ccTLD of Anguilla, to its growing list of “generic” TLDs, an indication that there are not many domains representing the small island.

Dot .ai domains are being used as a reference to “artificial intelligence” or AI, technology, crypto, and other uses that are not linked to Anguilla. As such, Google has added dot .ai to its list of generics so that search results include .ai domains regardless of the locale of the person performing the search.

Says Google about its updated list:

Generic Country Code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs): Google treats some ccTLDs (such as .tv and .me) as gTLDs, as we’ve found that users and website owners frequently see these more generic than country-targeted. Here is a list of those ccTLDs (this list may change).
