Kilt Alliance: Scottish domainers declare ccTLD independence

A group of Scottish domain investors, led by the owners of Glasgow.com, Edinburgh.com and Dundee.com, have formed the so-called “Kilt Alliance“, seeking the independence of Scotland as a ccTLD, and its immediate secession from .co.uk.

“Th’ lads an’ ah hae decided tae abandon stoatin Britain as uir soorce ay guidance,” said Angus McFirlin of Dundee.com.

“We need uir ain domain extension, an’ as highlanders we ken scottish domains ur best dressed wi’ th’ kilt!” exclaimed McFirlin.

The formation of the domain Kilt Alliance comes at a key point in time, while Scotland is on the brink of separating from the United Kingdom.

Elections are being held today to decide whether Scotland will remain as part of the United Kingdom. Many Scots are optimistic that they will become independent as a nation.

If that were to happen, actors such as Sean Connery would need a passport to cross south to England or Wales.

“Scootlund is uir place ay birth an’ domain names shoods reflect ‘at, nae?” asked Angus McFirlin, pointing to a chart of countries and ccTLDs on the wall.

Prior to becoming a formal domainer association, the Kilt Alliance of Scottish domainers will also need to seek ICANN approval in October – provided that Scotland becomes independent.
