Major news channels pick up on Search.xxx story

FOX News are among the news networks reporting the launch of Search.xxx

Major news networks, such as FOX News and CBS have picked up on the launch of the new adult search engine, Search.xxx.

The CBS article, titled “Search engine for .XXX domains goes live“, stated:

(CBS News) A search engine for .xxx top-level domains is now live, the ICM Registry announced Thursday.

Search.xxx will rank websites that have .xxx top-level domains. The controversial top-level domain was launched in December 2011. At the time, critics said the new .xxx domains would promote pornography.

“The establishment of a .xxx domain would increase, not decrease the spread of pornography on the Internet,” Patrick Trueman, chief executive officer of activist group Morality in Media said, when ICANN was voting to approve the top-level domain in March 2011.

However, the ICM Registry argued that .xxx domains would make it easier to identify and classify adult websites for consumers, providers and people who want to avoid mature content.

In a similar fashion, the article from FOX News analyzed the ICM Registry launch of Search.xxx, stating:

The naughty bits of the web have a Google they can call their own.

The creators of the new “.xxx” top-level domain launched a search engine specifically for adult content, arguing that it will make it easier for randy websurfers to find what they crave — and keep that content away from unsuspecting eyes and children.

“It’s a win-win situation for everyone,” Stuart Lawely, whose company ICM Registry launched Search.xxx on Thursday, told FoxNews.com. “It’s a safer environment for those who want adult content. And for the people who hate it, they won’t stumble upon it anymore.”

“It’s more of a responsible behavior,” he said.

Search.xxx is a bare-bones search portal that combs through over 20 million pages within .xxx, one of a nearly infinite number of new top-level domains poised to sit alongside the more common .com and .edu.

Definitely one of those times that news about adult content makes it to the mainstream media, describing the efforts of the ICM Registry and its focus on adult gTLDs.
