Meta employees are now called #Metamates

Meta, the mother company of Facebook, announced that as part of a new era in corporate culture, employees are to be referred to as “Metamates.”

An apparent portmanteau of “Meta” and “teammates” the Metamates reference was made by Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg:

Be Direct and Respect Your Colleagues is about creating a culture where we are straightforward and willing to have hard conversations with each other. At the same time, we are also respectful and when we share feedback we recognize that many of the world’s leading experts work here.

Meta, Metamates, Me is about being good stewards of our company and mission. It’s about the sense of responsibility we have for our collective success and to each other as teammates. It’s about taking care of our company and each other. At the end of the day, values aren’t what you write on a website but what we hold each other accountable for every day. I encourage you to reflect on these values and what they mean to you as we start working on this next chapter for our company.

Meanwhile, the domain name is sitting comfortably at GoDaddy. Its landing page indicates that it’s available to acquire. Registered in 2020, has a strong potential of being acquired by Meta, for their Metamates.

Go for it, Zuck! 😀
