Nigerian 419 Fraud numbers expected to rise dramatically!

Nigeria is notorious for its 419 scam activity.

The news from Nigeria, an African country of 170 million people is fantastic. At least, for the Nigerians themselves.

According to new data released by the Nigerian government, there are now more than 44 million Internet users in Nigeria.

The number represents an astounding leap from 2.5 million users in 2005 and 10 million Internet users in 2008. That’s a 440% increase in 4 years!

A large number of Internet scams originate from Nigeria, with the number “419” referring to the article of the Nigerian Criminal Code dealing with fraud.

Despite the small number of Internet users in Nigeria for the past decade, Nigerian scammers managed to defraud hundreds of victims and amass millions of dollars in stolen funds.

With 44 million Nigerian Internet users, the threat will become even more problematic, as the 419 scam is taught to a new generation of fraudsters. Of course, not all Nigerians are scammers, but those that are know the tricks rather well and are willing to pass the “tools of the trade” onto others.

Domainers around the world need to be aware of Nigerian fraudsters; here is some sound advice on how to protect oneself from the 419 scammers.
