Pornographic domain names are not allowed in India, where an anti-obscenity law instructs domain registrars to block such registrations.

In a case involving 36 .in domain names that somehow avoided this blockade, the operators of those active web sites uploaded pornographic movies, making them available to the public.

The Times of India mentions that police made arrests and that the individuals in custody had a strong connection to various hotels in Goa, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab where they used to record the porn videos.

Apparently, authorities are now instructed to enforce the law and supervise domain registrations of Indian domain names, disallowing any obscene names and content.

In 2011, Indian authorities confiscated Lund.in from popular domain investor, Adam Dicker. Lund means ‘penis‘ in the local language, and the Indian government got permanent hold of it ever since.
