Romney – Ryan owners want cool quarter of a million dollars for the domain

On Saturday we wrote about the existence of the domain name, RomneyRyan.com – the matching .com of the Republican ticket for the 2012 elections in the US.

The owners had it listed at Sedo, but the website itself was pulling content from MittRomney.com via the simple use of content framing. Somehow, they made it look as if it’s a legitimate web site for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.

It seems that the owners are now parking the domain at Sedo, soliciting offers. For fun, we were tempted to offer a crispy $100 and they came back asking $250,000 for it!

$250,000 is mucho dinero even for the Republicans.

The election race is heating up and many visitors will end up at RomneyRyan.com, thinking it is the proper place to go.

Since the domain consists of the last names of the Republican nominee and his VP of choice, it’s very possible that a UDRP would challenge its ownership.

I guess that makes Romney-Ryan dot com a bargain @$49,888.

Alan – The dash works well for SEO but not so well for the habits of millions of Republican web surfers 😉

Update: RomneyRyan dot com is listed with GoDaddy auctions with a “minimum” bid of $50,000.

I’ll bet after election day you will be able to pick up “for cheap”! (Assuming of course that Romney loses).

Oddly, someone bought the .de, com.co, com.mx, ca, mobi and even .tv! Will be interesting to see what happens.

Alan – Thank you for the info, much appreciated. Agreed, we’ll have to wait until after the elections – or the UDRP, whichever comes first. 😀

  5. Romney-Ryan or Obama-Biden? Two choices, same outcome.

  6. Jay says:

UDRP? And who owns a registered trademark for that name?

  7. Lucius "Gunz" Fabrice says:

Jay – Instead of playing devil’s advocate, read some on cybersquatting and how names of famous people are protected marks.

    Lucius:

Update: Because of possible trademark issues with the name RomneyRyan, it is no longer listed with Sedo and is now “black listed” because of a trademark complaint. (It has been removed from Flippa too.)

(I got election fever and bought a Romney Ryan domain and just received a “Trademark” complaint from Sedo saying it could no longer be listed in their marketplace.) I thought you may want to update your readers on this issue…………By the way, I’m voting for Obama, F*** the Republicans!
