The DropCatch auction for the domain SlateAuto.com ended earlier today, closing at $9,751 dollars.
The auction began with the first two days being lukewarm in bids but that changed when at least two domain investors shared news of the domain’s match to Slate Auto, an electric truck manufacturer, operating from Slate.auto.
Tagging the company’s accounts on social media surely triggered bids from enterprising domain investors looking to flip a big burger. It’s not clear if the company itself decided to bid, whether directly or by using the services of domain acquisition brokers.
Unlike with cases where a domain belonged to a company or person and they let it expire, SlateAuto.com was not owned by the automaker previously. Before it expired and dropped, SlateAuto.com had been a domain owned by the Slate Accounting Group.
Update: Post-auction WHOIS info shows that Slate Auto acquired the domain. Congratulations!
