The Greeks are coming: .GR.COM registrations open on November 30th

The Greeks are coming with GR.COM

.GR.COM – a new domain extension – is being launched via a Phased Roll-Out, from November 30 for registered trademark holders seeking domain names matching their marks, and from January 10, 2011 for all other registrants.

According to the company web site, no premium domains will be reserved by the GR.COM Registry.

Modeled after the likes of .US.com and .UK.com the Registry’s immediate market will be Greece that uses the ISO code .GR

While lots of reserved and forbidden words exist in the Greek ccTLD .GR, the GR.COM Registry imposes no such known restrictions. Registrants will thus be able to go for example after the full range of geo-TLD’s that are restricted by the .GR counterpart.

The .GR.COM launch schedule looks as follows:

Sunrise open Nov 30th, 2010 – Jan 9th, 2011
Validated registered trademarks only. Unique requests registered with the registry at the end of the period. Duplicate validated requests sent to auction.

Landrush Jan 10th – Feb 6th, 2011
Registration requests open to everyone. Unique requests registered with the registry at the end of the period. Duplicate requests sent to auction.

General Availability from Feb 8th, 2011
Registration requests open to everyone. Requests processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

  1. I think the domain market is saturated.
New Extensions may be worth for local businesses.

Not a good option for domain business (i will stay out of it)
