Trump administration to slap massive domain tariffs on un-American ccTLDs

In a bold move to protect the sanctity of .com and ensure that “America Made” applies to the digital frontier, US president Donald Trump announced sweeping tariffs on foreign domain extensions, specifically targeting .CA (Canada), .CN (China) and .MX (Mexico) domain names.

The move, which the Trump administration is calling the “Fair and Reciprocal Digital Tariff Act,” will impose a 25% tax on all domain renewals and registrations to these un-American country code top-level domains (ccTLDs).

“We’re making domains great again,” Trump declared on Truth Social.

“No more cheap, foreign domains taking clicks away from hardworking American websites. If you want a domain, you should get a .COM or maybe a .US if you’re truly patriotic!”

The news sent shockwaves through the domain investing world, with domain investors scrambling to unload their .CA, .CN, and .MX portfolios before the tariffs take effect on February 31st.

Major domain registrars are rushing to clarify how the tax will be calculated—whether it applies at checkout, during transfer, or retroactively on domains already in existence.

GoDaddy wrote: “We didn’t see this coming, but no worries, we have lots of .top and .fun domains to play with!”

Afternic sellers are already adjusting BIN prices lower, with one Canadian domainer commenting: “First, they came for my four-letter .CNs, and I said nothing. Now they’re coming for my .CA premiums! Enough is enough with this retard Trump!”

White House sources indicate that a tax credit for switching to .US domains from foreign ccTLDs might be arriving soon.
