Unplugged: Name.com puts ‘Syrian hacker’ domain on registrar hold

Domain registrar, Name.com has put the domain name syrianelectronicarmy.com on “registrar hold“, effectively locking its update and resolution. The domain cannot be transferred out to another registrar at this time.

The domain was used to share information related to a number of attacks on the DNS of several web sites, including Twitter, NY Times and Huffington Post UK.

According to an email sent to the admins of syrianelectronicarmy.com, the registrar hold lock was placed “due to breaches of the Name.com registration agreement.

A second domain name belonging to the same account, Qatar-Leaks.com, would be eligible for transfer to another registrar, according to Name.com.

It is noteworthy that prior to being disabled by Name.com, the domain syrianelectronicarmy.com was resolving to an IP on a server hosted in Russia.
