Zone file records for .XYZ domains drop below the 860,000 mark

.XYZ projections.

It’s been a week since we reported the apparent reversing of dot .XYZ domain registrations.

In a nutshell: Dot .XYZ domains did not reach the projected and anticipated “magic” number of 1,000,000 registrations, despite wishful thinking by the XYZ Registry.

Instead, several thousand .XYZ domains began to drop, and the current numbers show a downwards trend.

It’s rather early to judge the future of .XYZ and it will take several weeks and months for that to be established.

Meanwhile, two TLD tracking web sites, ntldstats.com and namestat.org, agree on one thing: the number of .XYZ domains in the zone files.

The zone files display only domains that are active, and therefore only active .XYZ domains with valid nameservers are included. Pending delete domains are not.

Currently, ntldstats.com displays 859,655 .XYZ domains in the zone file, with a matching number at namestat.org. Additionally, ntldstats.com tallies all .XYZ domains at 974,196 which includes domains in pending delete status. That’s 114,511 domains in difference, or 11.75% of .XYZ domains.

We’ll keep an eye on further developments with .XYZ domains in the coming weeks.
