Today is a big day for Internet Traffic

Today is a big day for Internet traffic, and by that we don’t mean the popular PPC outfit of Frank Schilling’s.

Internet traffic – in general – comes at a premium, and when the Internet foundation is abuzz with new developments, it’s a good thing to participate in the exchange.

ICANN’s announcement of 1,930 new gTLD applicationswhich resulted in the collection of more than $350 million dollars in fees – is nothing short of monumental.

The skeptics among us are seeing this expansion as the Big Bang that brought the universe to its current, ever-expanding proportions. Whether this is a good or a bad thing, we won’t be able to see right away, but it will become apparent in the coming months and years.

We are now exiting the dot .com era and entering the era of the open, generic TLDs.

Today, it’s ICANN day and all the world’s lights are shining on outgoing CEO, Rod Beckstrom – perhaps one final time before his departure.
