A few months ago we took note of how active Philip Morris has been at the WIPO and NAF, filing UDRP cases against domains infringing on the company’s super valuable trademarks.
The tobacco and smokeless products company has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in its IQOS and HEET brands, and it has no problem filing UDRPs left and right, on any domain that contains those brands.
In January 2019 we recorded 119 UDRP cases filed by Philip Morris for domains infringing on its multi-billion dollar valuation IP assets.

Six months later, the number is increasing, at an astounding rate: there are now 197 cases in total; 49 of these cases were filed in May alone, for a total of 53 “IQOS” and “HEET” domains.

Without a doubt, the number of UDRP cases for super valuable brands will continue to increase in the future. It’s worth noting that the majority of these May filings are for .com domain names, with only a small portion in other TLDs.
