Poll: Should the name be revealed already?

Last week, Rick Schwartz promised he’d reveal the name of the Moniker employee who violated the privacy of a customer account.

According to Moniker/Oversee, that employee was placed on administrative leave, pending the results of an internal investigation. There are concerns that only a slap on the wrist was issued.

Rick’s explosive reaction to the lack of transparency was legendary.

Meanwhile, a secret meeting of domainers concerned about the path our industry is on, asked for more transparency in the domain industry – you know who you are! πŸ˜‰

  1. Francois says:

YES, he should, personally I would like to know who I can or cannot trust at Moniker.

  2. Anno says:

It’s gotten to the point that it doesn’t really matter who it was. What’s become apparent from the incident and it’s poor handling is that you can no longer trust *anyone* at Moniker/Oversee.

  3. Eric says:

One bad apple spoils the bunch.

  4. DomainWeasel says:

We all know who it is anyway. Sad part is he didn’t come forward and admit it. Also odd how many people stand by this guy, but at least from their support we can see who has morals and is trustworthy in the industry.

  5. Fetch Rick, Pa says:

Why didn’t Moniker act? As the old DNForum saying goes, “Follow the money…”

  6. DomainTruth says:

Fact of the matter is… Moniker is a sinking ship and is not where you should store your valuable domains. Think of the events… Snapnames debacle with Halvarez, Victor Pitts leaves, Monte Cahn’s contract expires and he leaves and now misconduct with their “account managers”.

If your assets are not with Go Daddy, you are missing out. They have dedicated account managers, free security service that locks down your domains (i.e. they cannot be stolen), can waive the 60 day whois lock that their general support cannot and have better pricing as well! Even Bob Parsons will be keynoting DomainFest this year…

  7. Gnanes says:

It doesn’t matter no more. The past few e-mails I got from Moniker support doesn’t have a signature to state who was responding to my e-mails. They need to revamp up their existing policies and bring in new policies to protect their customers.

Why are people so angry and pissed off all the time in our fu*cked up generation?

This is the crappiest generation with spoiled idiots!

Everything is so amazing right now and nobody is still happy…we need to go back in time where there were donkeys with pots clinging down on the sides.

The cell phone loses signal while talking…people get so angry and pissed off…did you know just couple of years back there was no cell phone…there were rotary phones where you would have to dial one number at a time…now, everyone one of you spoiled brats have cell phones even the teenagers and you’re still unhappy just because you lose a freaking signal.

And now when you dial a number and hit send on your cellphone and it doesnt go thru in a milli-second…right away…you get angry…pissed off…will you give it a freaking second…the signal is going all the way in space…its amazing!

I was on a flight from New York to California that was getting ready to take off…but pilot announces there is going to be a 30 minutes delay and you are going to have to sit for 30 minutes on the runway…and guess what…people just went crazy and got angry and pissed off and looked at each other like the world was ending…i heard couple of people say…”this is bullshit”…did you know in the last century, it took 30 years to get from New York to California and you might even get shot with an arrow in your neck while traveling…now, it takes less than 5 hours to get there…you watch a movie and take a dump and you are there…and your still pissed off and angry…i think its amazing!

And another thing happened while i was on this flight…this airplane had free high speed internet service and this guy next to me was watching youtube videos and all of a sudden it stopped working..and the intercom says, we apologize..the internet will not work for a few minutes while we pass thru some rough areas…and the guy next to me yells…”this is BullShit” and gets all pissed off and angry…i’m like…we are on a freaking airplane with internet access…this is amazing!

Then after the flight…people come home from flights and they tell you their horror stories…they act like…it was the worst day off my life…first, we board 20 minutes late on the plane…
then they made us just sit there on the runway for 30 minutes…i’m like…you are sitting in a reclined chair thousands of miles up in the sky flying thru space…its freaking amazing!

I’m drinking, smoking, and posting…so stay with me here…

and now there is this Moniker employee who takes a freaking sneak peak at the whois privacy info…and people like Rick go crazy…while there are people in other countries lined up getting ready to get their heads chopped off…and Rick is worried about this freaking moniker employee who took a freaking peak at the whois privacy info…slap this employee on the wrist…he wont do it again…he promises…let him go…geez

if this is the most important story in your life time right now, i think you too should be lined up getting ready to get your head chopped off…or better yet…we need to throw your ass back in time with the donkeys..then we’ll see if this moniker employee story is so freaking important to you!

    i’m hungry…got the munchies…gotta go..

  10. Anon says:

Anunt, the fact that people are concerned about this employee’s actions is because we have morals and standards. The same morals that allow us to see that “chopping people’s heads off” is wrong. So today we say, “It’s only a minor thing that he broke privacy rules and tried to get a client fired from his job. Let him get away with it.” Then tomorrow, when the next, slightly worse scandal comes along, we say “Well, it’s only slightly worse than what the privacy guy did. Let him off.” Then the next, slightly worse scandal comes along, and where do we stop?

You clearly have a personal problem with Rick. If you’d been the victim in this case, I’m sure you’d have a very different opinion, but you’re unable to put yourself in anyone else’s shoes and feel empathy.

  12. Joe Smith says:

Maybe I am the only person in the industry that did not know this, and I really do not have a problem with it as a business aspect. But Rick is always ranting about full disclosure and I only just recently found out about how Rick and Howard made some % of the revenue from the TRAFFIC auctions. Knowing Rick after selling to Rick 2 he probably still does. Nothing wrong with this, but if it was not industry common knowledge why not? Rick was always complaining about the costs of TRAFFIC. Could not some % of his % have been saved each year to offset some costs next year? Ok, still a business decision but again I (and again maye just me) did not know about his auction revenue. And on the absolutely bad side, it means that one auction that Rick was in at TRAFFIC had a built in discount for him. Was there full transparency here?

  13. Lucius "Guns" Fabrice says:

Joe Smith: The transparency we’re seeking here is about someone who violated the ethics and rules of their employment, involving accessing the contact info of a customer without authorization and with an ulterior motive.

This is in no way related to transparency in business relationships or functions e.g. this is not about how much money Oversee makes from auctioning domains.
