Domain sightings: Vivint home security and their non-existent gTLD

Vivint is a company that provides professionally installed and monitored smart home security and automation systems. The company offers integrated solutions including security cameras, sensors, smart locks, and environmental detectors, all managed through a central smart hub and a mobile app for remote control.

Their domain name, Vivint.com, is seen in this domain sighting below, along with a playful design that depicts a home icon, followed by a “dot vivint” part. Of course, there is no .vivint gTLD in existence—only in the minds of domain name investors! 😀

It’s worth noting that the domain Vivint.com was acquired from its previous registrant in November 2010, using Sedo, for the sum of $5,000 dollars.

That’s because the company was about to rebrand from APX Alarm Security Solutions in February 2011.

What in the world is a “domain sighting,” you may ask.

It’s when we encounter domain names in the real world, that appear on vehicle wraps and signs, billboards and business signs, and product packaging. For convenience, we group them into .com domain sightings, and other ccTLDs, gTLDs and TLDs.
