Archive.org sustained two days of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, bringing the internet archive web site to its knees.
To top it off, a security breach actor obtained a registered user database, containing 31 million records. The data included usernames, email addresses, and salted-encrypted passwords. They provided the data to the operators of Have I Been Pawned (HIBP.)
The data breach manifested through the access of an outdated Javascript library. Archive.org is in the process of scrubbing systems and upgrading its server security.
Used by many as a repository of web site content, Archive.org preserves snapshots of websites over time. This can help domain investors prove how a domain was used in the past; the same, of course, applies to IP attorneys in the case of UDRP filings.
