The registrants of the domain Porn.com have filed for the registration of the matching trademark, both as a stylized logo and as the “PORN.COM” wordmark.
The two separate applications were filed at the USPTO on June 30th, citing first use of the mark in 2007. The trademark application examiners will have a field day perusing the adult samples provided. Below is a blurred version.
Since its sale in 2007 for $9.5 million dollars, Porn.com has changed its logo, which is probably the reason why an existing figurative mark for PORN.COM no longer applies.
The Booking.com decision is changing the way trademark applicants view the brand built on their generic domains, and numerous generic domain holders, such as Beauty.com, Fetch.com, and Ladders.com, are applying for registration of marks that include the TLD.
