Gname beat SnapNames, DropCatch; Aqueduct.com sold for $72,000

Gname is an up-and-coming drop-catching registrar based in Singapore. In recent months, the company has spent big money increasing the number of its connections to TLD registries.

Because each ICANN-accredited registrar has a maximum number of connections, the solution is to create more registrars—even if it’s “on paper.” What’s real, however, is the associated cost: $3,500 dollars a pop to create, plus another $4,000 per year to maintain. With hundreds of such registrars created by DropCatch and Gname, ICANN makes good money from this type of exchange.

Gname’s growth has been producing fruit: In recent weeks it’s consistently beating other drop-catching services, such as SnapNames, DropCatch, and SAV.

The recent catch of Aqueduct.com, formerly registered in 1995, is one such example. The ensuing auction closed at $72,000 dollars.

In the coming weeks, we’ll be watching Gname closely; a 33 year old, major tech keyword domain is about to drop. Will Gname beat the other drop-catching services again? 🤔
