ICANN CEO Fadi Chehadé might be enjoying his final 10 months in office, but his ongoing efforts towards a unified multi-steak holder model are reaping results.
The latest announcement from ICANN is related to gTLD string combining, a process that allows gTLD Registries such as Donuts, to offer domains in combined gTLDs.
According to directive ICANN-B52/2015, a gTLD Registry can combine two or more gTLD strings under management, and offer domains without any further requirements from ICANN.
Each gTLD Registry must be certified for the task, and Donuts is the first domain Registry that received the certification.
“Starting on June 15th, we’ll be able to offer a great selection of Combo gTLD strings,” said Paul Stahura of Donuts, Inc.
“The first group will include .CityChurch, .CheapClothing, .DatingGuru, .FishPhotography, .GlassMoney, .PlumbingComputer and .PizzaRepair, with more to follow,” added Stahura.
The introduction of the Combo gTLD program by Donuts will further extend its reach in the gTLD domain aftermarket, with millions of domains becoming available from June 15th.
“Just like when you go to a donuts shop, you don’t get a single donut, do you? You get combos and chunk them down with coffee, that’s the idea behind the Donuts Combo gTLD program!” exclaimed Paul Stahura.
Other gTLD registries in line for certification will include Uniregistry; we can’t wait for their .CarAutoCars mega-combo to arrive.
