Larry Ellison: Richest person in the world with Oracle.com

Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle whose company registered the domain Oracle.com in 1988, has become the world’s richest person for the first time.

His net worth surged by $101 billion after Oracle’s quarterly results beat expectations and projected further growth. This boost lifted 81 year old Ellison’s fortune to $393 billion, surpassing Elon Musk’s $385 billion on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

It was the company’s biggest gain since 1992, just four years at the time after the corporate domain Oracle.com was registered.

Oracle owns between 9,000 to 10,000 domain names, according to DomainTools. Many contain the “Oracle” keyword or those of its products and brands, e.g. Arborsoft.com, registered in 1989, or AppForge.com, a company Oracle acquired in 2007.
