Waterfox: Mozilla Firefox browser fork moves to Waterfox.com

Waterfox is a Firefox-based web browser built for users who want control, performance, and continuity without compromise. It was first launched in 2011 by developer Alex Kontos, originally as a 64-bit–optimized build of Firefox at a time when Mozilla itself did not yet offer one.

From the start, the project lived at Waterfox.net, a domain that remained its primary home and distribution point ever since. What began as a performance-focused experiment quickly evolved into a full Firefox fork with its own identity, roadmap, and user base—anchored on that same domain as it expanded beyond simple optimization into philosophy and policy.

The Waterfox project operators announced last week that Waterfox is migrating to a new domain, Waterfox.com.

It’s interesting to note that the domain Waterfox.com was sold in 2020 for the sum of $8,800 dollars via Sedo.com. It’s not clear if that acquisition was linked to the recent domain change, as WHOIS records for Waterfox.com appear to remain unchanged.
