Registering a domain name 30 years ago is a feat in itself. In 1995, Network Solutions was the sole domain registrar and the process was more or less manual—one could submit faxes to …expedite things.
Domain name registrations were also free, although there was a limit to the number of registrations and what could be registered: uncouth words were not allowed. On September 14, 1995, some things changed.
Domain investor, Warren Royal, operates Bobbleheads.com, a successful business that creates and sells a multiverse of customized bobbleheads. Warren registered the domain name WRR.com—representing his initials—in early 1995. That domain is now 30 years old!
The best part is that he still owns that domain, having resisted various rounds of increased valuation of LLL .com domains through the years. We’re certain that the “usual suspects” have contacted Warren Royal time and again, inquiring about WRR.com and offering a pittance for it.
But WRR.com is not Warren’s first domain name.
In 1993, aeons prior in internet time, Warren registered the domain Atlwin.com. Not the most generic domain, perhaps, but one with plenty of significance to Warren. Atlanta win, perhaps? 🤔
Warren Royal’s domain portfolio contains such gems as Scarface.com, Survivors.com, Washable.com, Untruth.com, and numerous domains that begin with “Custom.”
