Popular domain registrar Spaceship has crossed a major milestone: 5 million domains under management, a huge leap from the 1 million mark it celebrated just a year ago.
The surge appears fueled by new registrations rather than portfolio migrations: 86% of domains were registered directly at Spaceship, while 14% arrived via transfers. When domains do transfer in, the top three sources are Sav.com, Dynadot, and GoDaddy.

While .com remains the world’s most recognized extension, it represents just 17% of Spaceship’s registrations; a slight increase from the 13% share at the one-million mark, yet still a minority. The data illustrates a marketplace where 83% of newly registered domains lean into alternative TLDs.
Interestingly, .shop now matches .com at 17%, signaling strong demand for e-commerce. Other strong performers in the top tier include .my, .skin, and .co, while the fastest-growing group features com, shop, my, xyz, and skin competing for attention.
Geographically, the United States remains the top country for registrants, but the real surprise comes next: Cambodia ranks second, ahead of China, with the Philippines joining the top five for the first time. Within ccTLD space, .my (Malaysia) dominates its category at 41% of all ccTLDs registered at Spaceship. The geographic expansion hints at a broader global shift in where entrepreneurship and digital identity are accelerating fastest.
Spaceship’s domain marketplace, SellerHub, only launched three months ago and already boasts over 5 million listed domains, mirroring their registrar milestone. Among those listings, at least 1,124 domains have sold.
The premium side of the marketplace underscores continued strength in future tech branding: in the top ten most expensive sales so far, seven are in .ai, with the highest sale overall being a .com transaction at $2 million, followed by one .io entry to round out the mix.
What emerges is a clear set of signals: Alternative TLDs are no longer fringe experiments as consumers and investors are embracing a wider naming economy while digital activity in Southeast Asia is on a steep climb. Marketplace liquidity is scaling rapidly, and .ai continues to command serious money for serious ideas. Even with .com’s staying power, the ecosystem is changing faster than at any point since the new TLD rollout era.
