Getting an X account user name or “handle” that has been marked as unused or otherwise reserved is now possible at handles.x.com.
There are some caveats, however.
Premium users can only apply to be included on a waiting list, whilst Premium+ and Premium Business accounts can tap into the inventory immediately. If you’re a Premium user it might take a month or longer before you’re given access, it seems.

Domain investor Josh Reason recently took over the account @domainpro, for example. In doing so, he gave up his previous handle; another acquisition was probably that of @dnx. Both accounts retain their original creation date of 2009 and 2007 respectively.
Announcing his X handle switch from @aaronseminoff to @domaining, investor Aaron Seminoff triggered a response from another domain investor, who showed proof that he had applied for this account with X’s Handles division a month ago and looked for answers on that discrepancy.
The ensuing exchange pulled in other investors and an argument broke out.
In our opinion, some of these handles don’t resonate well without the matching .com domain; French domain investor, Francois Carrillo, founder of Domaining.com, operates from @domainingcom.
