Domain trademarks aren’t always about domain names.
While researching domain-related trademarks, one has to keep in mind a very simple fact: the word “domain” has other meanings as well.
Indeed, the primary definition of the word “domain” in the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is as follows:
- the land that a ruler or a government controls
- an area of knowledge or activity
In other words, “domain” can be used to define a sphere of influence or command of something, be it actual or metaphorically speaking.
With that in mind, we found several trademark applications or registered marks at the USPTO, for phrases that while they contain the word “domain” or “domains,” they aren’t not about your good old dot .COM. 😀
