Linda Yaccarino: New CEO of Twitter has her #domain cybersquatted

Linda Yaccarino is the new CEO of Twitter, as announced by Elon Musk earlier today. She will be focusing on business operations, while Musk plans to take a step back and focus on product design & new technology.

Ms. Yaccarino works at NBCUniversal as its Chairman of Global Advertising & Partnerships. With an impressive resume she is now called to help salvage Twitter from going further downhill, since Musk’s acquisition of the popular social media platform for $42 billion dollars.

There is one matter of concern, however: Ms. Linda Yaccarino does not own her matching .com domain name, LindaYaccarino.com. That domain was registered in 2017 by someone in Miami, Florida who has listed it for sale. The asking price: $3,000 dollars.

Of course, this is the definition of cybersquatting, when one’s full name and a rare combination in particular, is offered in exchange for money. Apparently, the domain’s registrant offers other domains that match the names of executives and realtors, per this listing on Afternic.

While we’re certain that Ms. Linda Yaccarino can afford to pay the asking price, the point is that she should not have to.

If you get the name before the person is born, is it still cybersquatting? Asking for a friend!

  2. DomainGang says:

Don – Most likely not. Targeting a series of living individuals by registering their first name + last name domain shows a pattern that many UDRP panelists would use against the Respondent.
