The Republic of Ireland is using the .ie ccTLD since its allocation on January 27, 1988.
As a ccTLD, or national domain TLD, .ie is restricted to Irish individuals and businesses, along with non-Irish businesses and individuals with an established, proven relationship to Ireland.
The country offers opportunities as a tax haven in Europe, making it a magnet for such companies to establish presence there.
