DoorDash is a leading on-demand delivery service allowing consumers to order from restaurants, grocery stores, and retailers.
Founded in 2013 and based in San Francisco, it operates via both an app and a web site, relying on independent Dashers for deliveries. The company, which went public in 2020, dominates the market with its wide network.
It was all about humble beginnings, however.
The domain name DoorDash.com was registered on June 18, 2013 but was not the start-up’s original domain or name. DoorDash was originally named Palo Alto Delivery and operated under the domain PaloAltoDelivery.com before rebranding in 2013.
Registered on January 11, 2013, that domain no longer resolves but it’s still owned by DoorDash! The company also owns TryCaviar.com, after acquiring Caviar from Square in 2019 for $410 million in a mix of cash and stock. The latter resolves, still.
It’s always fun to have rebranded into a successful company but still own the domain used in the days of your humble beginnings!
