Domain names that begin with “reopen” and end with a US city or state, are being registered en masse in recent days.
Investigative reporter, Brian Krebs, analyzed domain registration data provided by DomainTools, and has reached a not-so-surprising conclusion:
“Mostly gun rights advocates and conservative policy groups”
The report did find domains that were simply parked, but plenty are active or point to conservative policy groups, including some that voice gun advocate rights.
Here’s the list of domains published by the report:

The list is not complete by any means; we found more than 500 such domain names using different tools.
However, Mother Jones publication has interviewed Michael Murphy, a domain registrant who spent a solid amount of money buying such domains, to keep them from falling into the hands of people organizing “reopen” events.
The reason given by Murphy: He’s staunchly opposed to and frustrated by the protests because of the risks they pose in accelerating the spread of the Coronavirus.
