Digital City Brands: New cityTLD report from DOTZON

A digital city brand—also referred to as a cityTLD—represents a city’s digital identity and serves as a complement to its analogue city brand.

Now in its ninth edition, the “Digital Stadtmarken 2025” study examines how cities are leveraging their digital brands, presenting a detailed top 10 ranking.

The study by German consulting firm DOTZON analyzed 40 active digital city brands worldwide over a twelve-month period using eight key performance indicators—not just the number of total domain registrations.

Leading the rankings this year are .berlin, .tokyo, and .hamburg.

The “In the Wild” section highlights the diverse and creative applications of cityTLDs, showcasing their impact across city marketing initiatives, local businesses, digital government projects, major events, and beyond.

Katrin Ohlmer, Managing Director of DOTZON, will discuss the report on Monday June 23, at 14:00 PM CEST (12:00 PM UTC / 8:00 AM EDT) as part of an enlightening webinar about how cities build their digital homes with digital city brands. The webinar will be held in English.
