The Chinese government and its police force, are using intelligent glasses to locate persons of interest.
The “Big Brother” state can scan 1.3 billion profiles in just three seconds, and utilizes facial recognition to constrain movement of political and religious groups, along with the obvious hunt of criminals.
In China, there is no such thing as freedom of transportation; without an ID, Chinese citizens can’t take fast trains, to visit relatives, for example during the Chinese New Year.
In a similar note, Facebook announced today that they are upping the facial recognition features that once turned on, can identify users on untagged photos and videos!
According to the announcement by Facebook:
Introducing Face Recognition For More Features
We’re always working to make Facebook better, so we’re adding more ways to use face recognition besides just suggesting tags. For example, face recognition technology can do things like:
• Find photos you’re in but haven’t been tagged
• Help protect you from strangers using your photo
• Tell people with visual impairments who’s in your photo or videoYou control face recognition. This setting is off, but you can turn it on any time, which applies to features we may add later.
-The Facebook Team
Looks like Facebook is becoming increasingly intrusive; the biggest social medium on the planet will be scanning billions of photos to tag you in them automatically. Turning the feature off is our recommendation, but who says it won’t become mandatory in the future?
Welcome to the “Black Mirror” world.
