GPU.net formed in 2022 aiming to be the “Airbnb” of GPUs, graphics processing units. The company was founded by Suraj Chawla, who is an entrepreneur and a physicist.
There is a worldwide shortage of GPUs as AI projects utilize a gargantuan share of GPUs produced by companies such as Nvidia, AMD, and Microsoft. GPU.net helps resolve this problem by allowing idle GPU time from users around the globe to be shared and utilized.
The domain GPU.net was sold via Sedo in June 2023 for 3,000 Euro.
With AI being dependent on GPUs as opposed to CPUs, Abu Dhabi based GPU.net forms a global or “planetary” grid of datacenters.
In recent news, Freename, providers of blockchain solutions for TLDs, announced the immediate availability of .GPU domains in partnership with GPU.net.
According to the announcement:
From powering deep learning and scientific simulations to gaming and high-performance computing, GPUs are the backbone of modern AI. Now, with .GPU, developers, innovators, and businesses have a dedicated digital identity to shape the future. Whether you’re powering deep learning, scientific simulations, or next-gen gaming, a .GPU domain establishes credibility, enhances brand visibility, and connects you with a tech-driven audience.
