The Tampa Bay Rays are an American professional baseball team based in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Rays compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member of the East division.
Known affectionately as the Rays, the team operates from the domain name RaysBaseball.com. For obvious reasons, they’ve been eyeing the domain name Rays.com.
Tough luck, says the owner of the domain name; it’s not for sale, not today, not ever!
Ray’s Boathouse is a seafood restaurant that sits on the waterfront overlooking Shilshole Bay in Ballard, Seattle, and has been at its location since the 1940s, when it was little more than a coffee shop.
Hosting the Seattle seafood restaurant and bar’s web site since 1996, the domain name Rays.com was a target by the baseball team since 1998. At the time, the team was called Devil Rays, before it changed its name in 2007.
Doug Zellers, GM and co-owner of Ray’s Boathouse is proud that his company secured the domain name Rays.com when the internet was at its infancy. According to MyNorthwest.com, “you can buy salmon, oysters, and pan-seared scallops, but Rays.com is not for sale.”
