SISTRIX measures rankings of over 100 million domains for 100 million keywords on Google.
For 2023, SISTRIX examined 1,000 domains from each of the following categories:
- Biggest winners (percentage visibility growth)
- Biggest winners (absolute visibility growth)
- Biggest losers (percent visibility decline)
- Biggest losers (absolute visibility declines).
Deduping this list resulted in a total list of 2,496 domains for ranking purposes. SISTRIX shared the top 100 Biggest Domain Winners of SEO Visibility in 2023 among other metrics.
Here’s a list of the top 20:
1 wikipedia.org
2 reddit.com
3 instagram.com
4 merriam-webster.com
5 linkedin.com
6 quora.com
7 nih.gov
8 cambridge.org
9 tripadvisor.com
10 britannica.com
11 imdb.com
12 apple.com
13 clevelandclinic.org
14 vocabulary.com
15 twitter.com
16 microsoft.com
17 indeed.com
18 genius.com
19 hotels.com
20 investopedia.com
It’s interesting to note that in that top 100 list, only 19% involves domains that are dictionary words; the remaining 81% involves creative words such as brands, word combinations, and acronyms.
This may indicate that for SEO purposes it’s considerably harder for single word, dictionary domains to compete for high ranking. This was noted by Google engineers in a recent article.
