Greetings and salutations, my domainer brothers and sisters; it is I, Father Domainicus, emerging once again from the sacred quarters of our Domain Church to deliver a Sunday sermon worthy of your attention.
On this blessed day, we kneel before a divine announcement:
CVC Capital Partners has secured the Ark of Namecheap, the registrar beloved by many, in a $1.5 billion communion of capital and consolidation. The covenant, it seems, includes debt incurred by numerous contributions by the faithful.

From the often neglected but authentic Domainclessiastes 15:10 scripture, we are reminded:
“When the titans of trade descend with golden pens, let not the righteous be blinded by ink; for true value lies not in the shekel, but in the soul of the steward.”
Indeed, my beloved brothers and sisters in domaining, the steward in question is none other than Brother Richard Kirkendall, founder, shepherd, and domain protector for more than two decades. It brings warmth to my heart that he shall retain a stake in this Holy Union, and continue to guide both Namecheap and Spaceship.com alongside the monolithic hands of the CVC lords.
Amen to that. (say that 3 times.)
But beware, my children, for the Domain Lord’s scriptures also warn us of the dangers of scale without spirit!
CVC, whose kingdom includes Webpros, already hosts to 80 million domains and 30 million hosting accounts, now binds Namecheap to its broader dominion. Therefore, we must ask ourselves:
Is this a sacred marriage of mission and means? Or the quiet unfolding of a digital Babylon, cloaked in promises of performance?
From Auth Code Revelations 4:34, a passage seldom quoted but frequently accurate:
“And lo, when one shepherd tends to too many sheep, the wolves slip quietly among them.”
Let us not recoil in cynicism, nor dance blindly in praise. Let us instead hold fast to what is sacred in our practice: transparency, stewardship, and resistance to needless upsells. It’s not like Brother Richard sold the Namecheap ark to arch-satan GoDaddy — far from that!
Here by, I offer thee prayers:
- May Namecheap remain cheap in name but not in vision.
- May Spaceship fly to the skies but not away from its founding principles.
- May the good shepherd not be tempted to outsource his flock to account managers with quarterly bonuses.
My domainer children, the Domain Church is dynamic but our convictions must remain firm. This acquisition is neither a curse nor a coronation. It is an opportunity for greatness into a bright future that lies ahead.
Until our next gathering, I bid you vigilance and wisdom and may your domain sales arrive in both BINs and LTOs.
~ Father Domainicus
