It seems like yesterday when Nintendo released the iconic video game, Super Mario Bros.
And yet, that was thirty years ago, in September 1985! 😀
Oh, how time flies!
There was no commercial Internet back then, and although less than 100 domains had been registered already, Nintendo.com would have to wait ten more years.
The following year, 1996, someone registered SuperMario.com and it wasn’t Nintendo, according to historic WHOIS data from DomainTools.
But they do own that domain now, and are throwing a 30th Anniversary party for Super Mario Bros, Mario and Luigi.
Which brings us to the obvious question: Who owns the domain SuperMarioBros.com ?
Well, it’s not Nintendo, unfortunately, and the domain is parked; at the same time, it’s up for sale via Domain Name Sales.
Happy 30th birthday, Mario and Luigi! 😀
You can also read a fun article featuring domainer brothers Ammar Kubba and Omar Kubba.
Thank you for making me feel old this week as Mario is thirty and I remember getting it for Christmas and my friend Adam is 50. Time flies!
Joe – Did I mention 2015 is the year that Back to the Future takes us to? 😀 It was supposed to be a 30 year trip. So far there is a hoverboard – sort of – by Lexus. But fashion looks less rad.
That I know. I am a fan of the Cubs and the Yankees and back to the future also picked the cubs to win the world series this year and they look to be heading to the playoffs for the first time in a long time so we will see I guess.
Joe – I don’t suppose you have *that* copy of Sports Almanac, have you?!
