The Forward acquired Yiddish.com and Yiddish.org—A donation from philanthropist Elie Hirschfeld

The Forward, a historic pillar of Jewish-American journalism, has announced the acquisition of the premium domains Yiddish.com and Yiddish.org.

The domains were donated by Elie Hirschfeld, a New York-based real estate developer and philanthropist who serves as president of Hirschfeld Properties and founder of the Hirschfeld Foundation.

Rachel Fishman Feddersen, CEO and Publisher of the Forward, confirmed the acquisition today, emphasizing its symbolic and strategic importance for the media outlet that began as a Yiddish-language daily more than a century ago.

Founded in 1897 as the Forverts, the Forward quickly grew into the most widely read Jewish newspaper in the world. Though it transitioned to an all-digital format in 2019, its Yiddish roots remain central to its identity, reaching 1.5 million readers each month.

The donation of the two domains, registered in 1997 (Yiddish.com) and 2000 (Yiddish.org) strengthens the Forward’s ability to expand digital engagement with global audiences interested in Yiddish culture, heritage, and language.
