Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, (ICANN), has agreed to expand the ending words for websites to cover individuals and businesses that reside on water. Sunrise Period begins Friday, October 2nd.
“Our goal is to cover people who live in boats and floating restaurants.” As reported on their website. “This provides opportunity to further commercialize their locations and hopefully bring more business to their area.”
Tellic, the organization who manages .telegram, has agreed to reside over the .ocean registrations. Just as the useful features that come with .telegram, Tellic provides web based tools for .ocean owners that automatically map their location using Google Maps. Visitors can obtain driving directions with the simple press of a button.
Dustin Haywood, communications director at Tellic, believes .ocean will become the .com of water based entities. “We believe everyone should have a web address no matter what their location is on the planet Earth. This includes all of the four elements: fire, earth, air and water that our Mother Earth is made of. Releasing TLDs in each of these categories will ensure every living or invisible creature will have a true way to represent itself.”
Beginning at 3pm on October 2nd, trademark holders will have the first go at the .ocean extension. For everyone else, Landrush begins on Monday, October 5th.
