Wupperverband: Domain rebranding shortens German company’s name

The German language has some really long words and Germans love to hyphenate domains for that exact reason.

Wupperverband is a German company that processes and purifies water in Wuppertal, Germany.

The company’s web site is at Wupperverband.de and Wupperverband.com but they decided to spend a small chunk of money for something shorter and easier to memorize: WV.de.

The domain was sold on Sedo for the sum of 60,000 Euro (approximately $68,000 dollars.)

Maybe they can get Wasserwirtschaft.com (“water management”) next, available via Uniregistry or is it too long to be of use? 😀

But no worries, WupperVerbandsGesellschaft.com, Schlammverbrennungsanlage.com, and Wasserversorgungsunternehmen.com, matching domains of terms used in their About Us page, are all available for reg fee.

  1. Sky says:

when Germans say “purify water” i think they mean “turn it back into lager”

must be careful not to sneeze there or could be saying anything.
