A company called Behalf operating from the domain Behalf.com shut down without a trace in early 2023.
Issues had begun a year earlier, however, as the company’s social media accounts such as Facebook and Twitter were last updated in March of 2022.
Behalf was providing business financing “on demand” allowing small businesses to receive funds; when it all stopped, many complained about the lack of transparency and support.
Here are examples from Facebook:
- Interesting when I log into my account, it says I cannot use my account any longer. I have been with Behalf for 4 or 5 years. I did not get an email or a phone call to discuss any issues. I have paid every single payment on time and never had one issue. I find it in poor taste that a company would quit doing business with you and not contact you or discuss any reasons for their actions.
- [The email] care@behalf.com no longer works. We cannot access our account either. We have heard you are closing down. Would really like an honest reply. Your phone goes to VM and your link to customer service no longer works. An explanation is in order.
- Not sure why they are saying to email or DM, when I emailed them they sent a message saying they are no longer offering the product.
Behalf received millions of dollars across 9 financing rounds and had a post-money valuation in the range of $500M to $1B as of Jul 28, 2021. Then things went downhill, apparently due to changes in the financial markets.
Long story short: The domain Behalf.com wasn’t renewed so it expired and eventually dropped. It was caught by DropCatch where it’s currently in an auction; the auction sits at $6,916 dollars currently with 2 days left.
Behalf.com was originally registered in 1998 and appears to have been acquired from its previous registrant in late 2014.
Update 12/17/2023: The auction for Behalf.com closed at $34,500 dollars. Winner is DropCatch account “dropper” who wins a generic .com with a not-so-stellar history and a fresh registration date.
