I ran a little experiment earlier today, and the message from domainers was heard loud and clear: We want more numbers!
What was the experiment? It wasn’t a poll. It was simply a post saying “$475,000 wow!” – the headline was ambiguous as of what it’s related to. It generated as many clicks as Elliot’s bait-post about why he doesn’t like to invest in brandable domain names.
But that’s what domain investors want to see, more numbers, preferably large ones.
The article was a tongue-in-cheek parody of the out of this world sales that Frank Schilling appears to be achieving, for domains that some of us would have a hard time selling for a grand.
And that’s where the difference is: experience in negotiation and a methodology that involves using the most obvious of all words.
What is that word?
“No.”
As in, “no, you won’t have this domain for a grand“. Or, “no, you are wrong about how much this domain is worth.” And as in, “no, just because you can find a longer composite for reg fee, doesn’t mean it’s equally good.”
So if you need more numbers like these, learn to use the “N-word” properly. ๐
