When it comes down to having good reputation, it’s important to maintain it.
GoDaddy is now presenting a blue tab with “Reputable Search” on it for domain search results.
Clicking on that blue tab on the left side reveals the following text:
“Godaddy does not abuse your trust in order to attempt to register domain names for ourselves or any of our partners. The following is a list of suggestions that may be available.”
The text is a preventive message to reassure would-be GoDaddy customers that their searches won’t result in any insider registrations by the Registrar.
However, GoDaddy does not explicitly state that domain searches will not be used to train AI systems or to create cumulative search lists—the reputable search promise only applies to not registering domains that may have been searched by customers.
About 17 years ago, things got nasty.
The fun part: Someone registered ReputableSearch.com around the time this feature was discovered and is seeking $100,000 in exchange. The domain is listed with Afternic.
