GoDaddy & Afternic announce 100-year LTO plans for domain buyers

Intending to make domains more affordable for everyone, GoDaddy and Afternic have unveiled the 100-year Lease-To-Own plan, designed for domain buyers who want premium domain names but prefer to pass the payments down through generations.

The new GoDaddy product, dubbed LTO4Ever, allows buyers to secure ultra-premium assets like FL.com or Clock.com with a payment plan that extends well beyond their expected lifespan. The goal is to make domains “as timeless as your family’s mortgage.”

Recent announcements made by US President Donald Trump reference the anticipated introduction of 50 year mortgages, expanding one’s financial commitment to a bank institution from their teenage years to well past retirement.

“Why pay off a domain name in just 12 months when you can pay in 1,200?” said Afternic’s Product Manager, Al J. Heimer.

“This way, everyone from your kids to your grandkids can contribute to the brand legacy, literally so,” added the Afternic PM, smiling.

Each 100-year LTO at GoDaddy will include a balloon payment adjustment every decade, to keep up with inflation, plus taxes and fees.

Domain investors on X reacted mostly positively, with one veteran domainer calling it “a revolutionary way to stay broke forever.” Another noted, “Finally, I can buy Uncle.com on LTO and my three nephews and their kids will handle the rest.”

Even Mark Ghoriafi, aka Mr. Premium at Sedo, couldn’t resist chiming in:

“At Sedo we sell life-changing domains. GoDaddy’s novel idea ensures those lives just keep changing, for at least one hundred years!”

The new program could spark a wave of intergenerational domaining, where assets are inherited alongside debt and century-long renewal fees. GoDaddy hinted at even longer options in the future, including “Eternal Escrow,” a product currently being tested on the blockchain.

Are you ready to commit to a .com for the next one hundred years? 🤔
