French domainer entrepreneur, Francois Carrillo runs the popular domain blog aggregator, Domaining.com
Being ingenious, Francois noticed how popular domainer, Mike Berkens often lists stock quote fluctuations at his blog, TheDomains.com
“I saw opportunity get traffic, easy widget, et voila, install it and get clicks from Yahoo, Demand Media, Google and of course Verisign – absolument!”, said Francois while eating a croissant with strawberry filling.
“In future, we add weather, sports and zodiac – how do you say in English – ah, horoscope! Absolument!”
The new widget cannot be turned off, much to the dismay of Mike Berkens who promised to come back with another type of useful, daily information about the domain industry.
It is the same that http://www.domainsville.com/ . It is a new competitor.
Now we know who “borrowed” our widget. LOL
Oops! 😀
In fact it’s a Yahoo widget I have used in other sites in the past.
I did not put it in Domaining.com for 2 reasons:
– I had the feeling most domainers don’t play the stocks (it’s my case for example).
– Mike was already showing this data on his site so I felt there was no reason I did it.
I added it more an indirect message to Abdu (who own the new competing site domainsville) to outline that it’s very easy to partially copy other sites but have it visited or create a brand is signficantly more difficult and requires money, hard workd and time.
In fact I also have few years ago a list of events displayed in the right pane of Domaining.com showing shows, auctions, … But I dropped it and replace it by a link in our top toolbar menu (that was recently replaced by the directory) to Frank DNCalendar.com.
Maybe I should less take care of others and also start offering domain related gadgets like these to my audience?
@Francois
It’s very easy to apply for a Yahoo Finance widget. Simply visit finance.yahoo.com/badges. The widget script code you will be provided with contains your OWN tracking information. The one currently on your site has Domainsville’s tracking code. Copying blindly could jeopardize your valuable reputation. 🙂
The Yahoo stock widget is also offered in black. Perhaps using that one would blend-in with your dark color theme. 🙂
J’aime strawberry-filled croissant too. LOL
My reputation is now safe … LOL
Thanks for the note Abdu.
