The government of India is trying to take the domain StartupIndia.in from its rightful owners.
The .IN domain is owned by a Delhi startup entrepreneur, who registered it in 2014. Two years later, India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, announced the launch of the “Startup India” program.
StartupIndia.in shares a disclaimer on its web site:
“StartupIndia.in is the official domain name of Startup India Advisory Services Private Limited which is a private initiative helping and supporting entrepreneurs. StartupIndia.in or Startup India Advisory Services Private Limited does not have any association or affiliation with the government of India.
In case you are trying to get more information about Government of Indiaโs initiative called Startup India, kindly refer to http://startupindia.gov.in.
By entering the website, you agree to all its terms and are seeking more information about Startup India Advisory Services Private Limited.”
The National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) manage the .IN ccTLD, and in a email sent to the owner of StartupIndia.in on May 29th, mentions that the “domain is misleading and is in violation with the Startup India program.”
India’s official domain for the program is Startupindia.gov.in.

Not fair in the part of the Government of India. Looks like the Original Registrant would also benefit from owning the Emoji Domain version of Startup India … ๐๐ฎ๐ณ.ws
My longterm held domain deity.in was taken in a similar way. It has been used for the Indian Government’s Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeITY) but isn’t resolving at this time. I hope to get it back if they don’t use it.
