China’s domain “Chip” game is dead, and not even the Qixi Festival can revive it.
The annual festival is China’s version of Valentine’s Day, and just like New Year’s in China, it’s an opportunity to exchange gifts, including money.
We don’t foresee that Chinese lovebirds will spend their cash on domain names, however.
Prices for domains consisting of Chinese-favored letters, such as consonants except for the letter “V,” have fallen dramatically in recent months.
It was an artificial game to begin with, as Hong Kong investors who registered thousands of “QJXZ” domains invented a market and a demand for it.
Enjoy the Qixi Festival tomorrow Friday in China, and happy kissing.
