Sedo, a DomainGang sponsor, sent us an update on the termination of the auction for WBS.com – a domain that has been reported as stolen by its owner.
Sedo’s representative confirmed that the legitimate owner initiated the auction cancellation request, and stated:
The domain WBS.com was previously put to auction by a seller who had control over the domain name. Then we received a notification from the actual owner, telling us that the domain was stolen from his account.
Upon this, our Security and Compliance team investigated this claim which promptly led to the cancellation of the auction.
In this case, we were able to react quickly and suspended the seller’s account, as well as blacklisting the domain to ensure it cannot be listed for sale though us again.
Domain theft has been covered extensively in the last few months; we want to be as transparent about our processes as we can, knowing how much security is of the utmost importance for sellers using our services and buyers seeking these domains.
The domain WBS.com is at Namecheap, and its WHOIS information went under privacy on May 10th, around the time it was sent to auction at Sedo.
We will issue updates on the status of the stolen domain asset, WBS.com, once new developments occur.
