PayPal is now being used as a guerilla marketing tool, sharing customer data with advertisers.
A $5 dollar offer by Dynadot to spend at its store, might seem as free money at first. The alarming fact is that PayPal and Dynadot share cookie-based data to target PayPal users.
This unwelcome spamming of email accounts that can and should be specific to PayPal is part of “customized ads” by PayPal. In case you didn’t know what you singed up for, check it out:
“We partner with certain third-party advertising providers to show you ads you’ll find more relevant. If you don’t want to see customized ads, you can opt-out of interest-based advertising by companies participating in the Digital Advertising Alliance (“DAA”) at the DAA’s Choice Page, located at http://www.aboutads.info/choices. You’ll still see ads, but they won’t be tailored to your interests.”
This incredible display of chutzpah brings to focus the intrusive interaction of third party payment systems, such as PayPal, and the audacity of domain registrars to utilize such data.
We have now opted out of these spammy marketing emails from PayPal, and have added Dynadot to a list of domain registrars we don’t recommend, due to this invasive promotion.
I just bought theresnoiin.team thanks to free $5
Jay – Congratulations! Now your PayPal email can be used by Dynadot’s marketing team.
